Rome, June 17, 2025 – This afternoon, “La Lanterna” in Rome will host the event “Strategie e innovazione per il gioco responsabile. Le persone al centro di un'industria sostenibile” (Strategies and innovation for responsible gaming: putting people at the heart of a sustainable industry), organized and promoted by NOVOMATIC Italia. The initiative aims to foster meaningful dialogue among institutions, researchers, operators, and stakeholders on a topic of growing social and economic importance: public gaming and the challenges of sustainability.
The event features a series of discussions and expert seminars, beginning with a roundtable titled “Il Disturbo da Gioco d’Azzardo (DGA): Strategie integrate per la prevenzione, le nuove frontiere tecnologiche e organizzative. Il ruolo dell’AI per il gioco responsabile” (Gambling Disorder: integrated prevention strategies, emerging technological and organizational frontiers, and the role of AI in responsible gaming). The debate will explore how integrated approaches can help prevent gambling-related harm, the impact of new technologies and organizational models, and how Artificial Intelligence can be applied to promote safer and more responsible gaming practices. Participants will include representatives from the scientific and academic communities, as well as consumer advocacy groups. A case study will follow, presented by the U.O.C. Dipendenze Patologiche Rimini l'AUSL Romagna (Pathological Dependencies Unit of Rimini AUSL Romagna), a recognized leader in developing integrated strategies for the prevention and management of Gambling Disorder.
Another highlight of the event will be the exclusive preview of a new study by Nomisma titled “Il valore economico e sociale dei giochi pubblici su rete fisica in Italia” (The economic and social value of land-based public gaming in Italy). The research offers valuable insights into the sector’s impact on local communities and the potential of a regulated, sustainable model. It examines the retail public gaming landscape in Italy, focusing on its economic contributions, such as GDP, employment, and tax revenue; and provides a detailed look at Italians’ gaming and entertainment behaviours, helping to better understand how the industry is evolving.
The event will conclude with a second roundtable discussion: “Il gioco fisico con vincite in denaro: quale futuro?” (Land-based gaming with cash prizes: what’s next). This session will explore how innovation, legality, responsibility, and sustainability can be balanced in a sector that engages millions of citizens and thousands of businesses. Representatives from institutions, associations, and national government officials will discuss the future of Italy’s gaming industry, considering recent online gaming concession tenders and the upcoming reorganization of the land-based gaming offering.
